Welcome to BandWorks workshops for adults. You have found the fountain of youth! Whether music is a hobby or a lifetime obsession, whether you are experienced or a beginner, we can place you in a band and get you involved in our growing community.
Each workshop starts with your registration. You tell us your instrument(s), availability, experience, musical preferences and general history. We match you with a new or existing band that meets your registration parameters best. You will receive an email confirming your new band and explaining our process a few days before the workshop begins.
Each band treats each workshop as a complete band experience, however 80% of our adults return for another workshop and many have been with us for several years, sometimes with the same band, sometimes with different bands.
We take care of all the logistics — setting the rehearsal time, booking a fully-equiped rehearsal studio, working through song choices, providing charts and arranging the gig – all you have to do is show up and play! Musicians can come in with friends, or sign up on their own to be placed in a group. Every musician gets placed with a band selected to match his or her experience level and instrument as best as possible. Then, for two hours each week, they work with our staff of professional musician-instructors in our fully equipped professional music studio. After honing their sets, the bands take to the stage and perform live at a popular local venue.
The BandWorks Experience
Over the course of 8-weeks, each band builds a set of songs to perform together—in popular music styles like rock, blues, pop, reggae, and funk. We select the songs for each band based on students’ song choices when they sign up, and make sure that when they arrive on the first day the songs are ready to go. (Students can peruse our extensive Song List for ideas, or suggest new ones.) Here are just a few of the things you get from each BandWorks session:
- Just show up and play – your band is already assembled, the songs chosen, your studio reserved, and the gig only 8 weeks away!
- Work closely with a professional musician-instructor/mentor in an intimate setting with your band
- Build self-confidence and develop your musicianship
- Meet like-minded musicians interested in starting a band and playing music
- Learn to read charts, play with dynamics, improve your soloing, and rehearse more effectively
- Write an original song with your band
- Get the real experience of playing in a rock band!
After eight weeks of rehearsal, it’s time to hit the stage! Each BandWorks session concludes with a concert performance at a popular local venue featuring all the current BandWorks bands. Always a super fun, rocking event, this session-ending concert gives students an opportunity to put together everything they’ve learned—and to show off a little for friends and family.
Ready to rock? Registration is now open for our Fall Session! Just click the Register button at the top of the page. Once you’ve completed the online form, you will receive an automated receipt acknowledging your registration. You will receive email notification of your particular band placement the week prior to classes starting.
Students are placed in our Rock Band Workshops in which we match students as described above. When you register online, please indicate as many possible times that you’d be able to meet with a band. Once your band is built, you will only meet once a week at the designated time.
Refunds and Discounts
There are no refunds after the second class of a session, for missed classes or for missed concerts. If you decide to withdraw your registration after one rehearsal we will retain your $100 non-refundable deposit. If we are unable to place you in a band you will be fully refunded.
Families with two or more members participating in any classes during the same session will receive a $25 discount per each additional family member who signs up. This may not be combined with any other coupons or discounts except the Early Registration Discount.
