As we continue to follow the State of CA guidelines , we are excited to offer in person summer camp in 2021. Yes, our teachers are vaccinated and we will be checking temperatures, wearing masks and sanitizing our hands and equipment often. Our classes will be smaller and we have a brand new HVAC system in Oakland. We hope the Bay Area counties will move into yellow tier in the coming months and possibly even open fully by the time camp begins. Get registered and let’s rock and roll this summer!
BandWorks offers 6 in person unique summer camp programs for kids and teens. Most camps run mornings (9am to 12pm) and afternoons (1pm to 4pm) each week. Free lunch supervision is provided for students who sign up for both morning and afternoon programs, as well as Digital Recording (9am to 4pm) classes. Many campers spend the whole week at BandWorks attending AM and PM classes in the same week. They receive a $20 discount and free lunch supervision.
We are also offering some of our most successful online camps from last summer as 1-hour at home options for those that feel inclined (see below), The intensives are great for kids in camp during the day too get more help with their parts, or just for musicians to stay in practice and improving this summer.
Each BandWorks program provides a supportive environment for young musicians to have fun playing music with other kids or teens, and develop their music and teamwork skills at the same time. Students get to experience the thrill of being in a real rock band, playing songs together by the end of the first day, and working toward a rocking in-studio performance on the last day of camp! All of our sessions are led by top professional musician-instructors who create a fun and supportive environment while teaching students the skills they need to play in a band — and make new friends in the process!

In Oakland we offer one-hour early drop off and late pick up options as well, just add that to your registration.

Introduction to Rock Band
Our Intro to Rock Band camp offers aspiring musicians an opportunity to explore rock music and learn the basics on several instruments. There will be movement and music related games, students will perform in an online streaming concert on Friday. Each instructor will tailor the camp emphasis based on the direction the group decides to pursue, and can include one, several music-making goals. Each week is different, so sign up for as many weeks as you like! All instruments and vocalists welcome. No experience required.
Our Rock Band camp offers musicians an opportunity to collaborate with their bandmates on popular cover tunes or even writing their own original songs. Each instructor will tailor the camp emphasis based on the direction the group decides to pursue, and can include one, several, or all of the above music-making goals. Bands will perform in an online streaming concert on Friday. Each week is different, so sign up for as many weeks as you like! All instruments and vocalists welcome. Minimum 6 months experience suggested on your instrument.
Like our Rock Band camp, this is for musicians who want to work together to collaborate with their bandmates on popular cover tunes. The only difference is that this camp will focus on exploring the music of a specific band, with less emphasis on creating original music. All instruments and vocalists welcome. Minimum 6 months experience suggested on your instrument.
Digital Recording (12+)
For students who want to learn about studio recording techniques, and make a professional sounding recording at home! Using applications like Logic, GarageBand, Bandlab, and Audacity, students will learn about tracking, mixing, using different types of microphones and recording gear, and all the preparation necessary to make a high-quality recording. Learn how musicians are making really great recordings while sheltered in place, and even make a collaborative recording with your bandmates! Minimum 1 year experience suggested on your instrument.
The powerful influence of playing music together can be transformative, and can carry over into many facets of our lives. All BandWorks camps and workshops are designed to foster cooperation and collaboration while building self-confidence and leadership skills…but sometimes it can be easier to express yourself when you’re in a group of the same gender. This camp has been requested by many parents, so we expect it to fill up quickly. Don’t miss out! All instruments and vocalists welcome.
1-hour ONLINE camps
(Mon-Fri, 11am-12pm and 4:30 to 5:30 pm)
Beatmaking (All ages)
Learn how to make professional sounding beats for a variety of applications including backing tracks for music, soundtracks for film, gaming audio, and much more! In this introduction to Beatmaking, students will learn the basics of sound production and multi-track recording/editing, and will have the chance to work with audio software applications in order to explore their creativity and develop their own sounds. No experience necessary. Home computer/tablet setup with a DAW (digital audio workstation) recommended but not required. We offer this class every week all summer, just pick your week and get registered!
Guitar Intensives (All ages)
Each week we’ll be offering guitar intensive. Sign up and take your skills to the next level! All of our intensive camps are taught by top professional musicians who specialize on their instrument, so you’ll be getting great instruction from top teachers who really know their stuff. Each camp will cover a range of topics as determined by the instructor, but they will all focus on helping you get the most out of your practice time, and will help you tailor your own program for continued development on your instrument. Really beneficial for students who are in a camp band to work on their specific songs. This is a perfect venue to ask lots of questions!
